$6 million upgrades underway at Henderson Park Ice Centre

Crews are busy setting up for a series of renovations to a local ice rink.

The Henderson Park Ice Centre Upgrade will be conducted in two phases, with a total budget of $6,091,000.

Phase one will involve the retrofitting of a small decommissioned practice rink into four dressing rooms, each equipped with private shower and washroom facilities.

The second phase will see an expanded front lobby, renovating the existing washrooms and change rooms as well as the addition of an officials’ room.

Both phases will include modern accessibility considerations.

“This upgrade will be a huge benefit to the users,” says Robin Harper, General Manager of Recreation and Culture with the City of Lethbridge.

Harper explains that the Henderson Ice Centre is 53 years old, and while the structure is still solid, the functionality of the facility is “not great.”

Jayce Adams, Facility Services Project Manager, says preliminary work on phase one has already begun, and he hopes to have it completed before the ice gets installed for this fall’s hockey season.

He does not expect there to be any impacts on programming.

Phase two is scheduled to begin in 2026 and be finished by late August or early September.
